4 Lessons: Cutting Through the Digital Transformation Hype

The digital transformation hype is concerning today’s directors, senior executives, and CEOs. Not to mention that even with the big amount of investments in DX, many still fail and end up without real results.

In fact, in 2019, the digital transformation risk is of prime concern for most corporate leaders. But, why? Isn’t DX supposed to be a leverage of systems and company culture?

This is because many organizations invested in DX, yet 70% fail and without results. For instance, in 2019, almost $1.3 trillion was spent on DX. But up to $900 billion went to waste. Unsurprisingly, this causes many to believe that DX is only hype and perhaps not that necessary.

There is more than to the hype of digital transformation. Internal systems, organizational culture, and even the very mindset- all of these can contribute to either success or failure. In this post, we will be listing 4 important lessons in digital transformation.

4 Lessons: Cutting Through the Digital Transformation Hype

So here are 5 lessons that can lead you into more digital transformation successes.

1. Strategy First Before Investments

Probably one of the major downfall in undertaking DX is putting more focus than necessary on technology. How many times have you heard of this: “Digital transformation is not about technology.”?

Perhaps when leaders think of DX, a specific tool readily comes to mind. Although tools can help and they contribute a lot, DX works more than mere digital tools.

Successful digital transformations drive strategy first before investments in technology. Why? There is no single answer for the “best & innovative tool” in the market. In every organization, needs vary from one vision to another.

With a clear path of objectives, you are better likely to reach your destination. In the same manner, with clear business goals, you can better reach the results from your investments.

2. Strong Support From the Inside

Many who seek transformations usually gain help and support from outside sources.

However, among all others, the best support that you can get is from the inside. What’s inside should work further on the outside.

Insiders or existing employees know the organization way better than any outsource. This intimate knowledge and connection they have with the organization can be a reliable source for insights. Insights that can better lead investments.

Of course, outsourcing can help, but this should go hand-in-hand with insiders, for instance.

3. Be Customer-Centric

If the goal of the DX is to leverage customer experience, then from the start, planning should be customer-centric.

In this case, leaders should have more than just assumptions about their customers. In-depth research and customer input should precede the diagnostic phase, for instance.

4. Acknowledge Employee Resistance

One of the most common factors for slow DX growth is due to employee resistance. Perhaps they perceive that DX ought to replace them with their jobs. So this may lead them to either consciously or subconsciously resisting the change.

So what can you do?

Acknowledge their fears and educate them enough. So let your employees know what DX is for. Help them embrace the change with enough knowledge.

Final Thoughts

Digital transformation is more than just the hype. DX should be led by strategies and in-house support, more than mere technology.

Benefits of CIO Dashboards and Best Practices

Chief information officers use CIO dashboards to analyze data. These tools contribute a lot to these executives. Let’s get to know more about it.

Why Do You Need CIO Dashboards

CIOs operate as front liners of business technology. Their most important job description is managing information, technology, and computer systems. They manage those since those technologies are essential in supporting an organization and its goals.

Furthermore, CIOs explain to the board members how those technologies make the company more profitable. However, CIOs need to have easy access to performance metrics to do that. That’s where CIO dashboards come in handy.

CIOs use a dashboard to see key data relevant to IT staff members and other business executives. As a result, this enables everyone to understand how IT systems and functions impact their health.

Moreover, a CIO dashboard helps everyone on the company see the impact of those systems on the performance of the business as a whole. Additionally, easier data access and understanding provide everyone with the information they need to make important decisions.

Benefits of CIO Dashboards

Maybe you are wondering what benefits a CIO dashboard would give to you. Well, here are some examples:

This tool updates automatically. As a result, CIOs save a huge amount of time and resources. Moreover, you can act on the data right away and start making improvements.

  • Comparisons made easier. Having data without context makes it useless. A dashboard allows you to compare current data with the data from a previous period or year. Furthermore, this tool helps you find hidden relationships and correlations. Those relationships may be hard to notice in simply looking at an Excel spreadsheet.

Best Practices for A Chief Information Officer Dashboard

The building process for a dashboard varies depending on which software you are using. But, keep these practices in mind when creating a dashboard.

  • Know your purpose. Many fall into the trap of creating a dashboard with too much unnecessary information. To avoid that, know the purpose of the dashboard you’re creating. Focus on meaningful data points.
  • Understand your audience. It is crucial to know your audience to provide the best possible user experience. Moreover, you need to learn to adjust to creating your dashboard for an audience that is not data-minded. Additionally, consider the fact of your audience using mobile phones.
  • Ensure alignment with business goals and outcomes. A dashboard allows business leaders to see where the IT budget is going.

The Risk Mitigation Meaning- What It Means To Your Business

There are several threats to a business. That is why proper risk management is necessary. So what is risk mitigation meaning to your business?  Discover how you can better risk responses through this article.

Risk Mitigation Meaning

Risk mitigation is an element of Risk Management. And risk mitigation alone does not make up optimum risk management.

The word ‘mitigate’ suggests to ‘lessen, or alleviate, or reduce’. And that is exactly what risk mitigation aims for.

Moreover, risk mitigation develops strategies to ‘mitigate’ risks.

When we say risks, there are a lot of risks to a business. It can be:

  • Cyberattack
  • Natural disasters
  • Pandemic, like what we’re experiencing today

Thus, risk mitigation aims to reduce the negative impact and effects. Of the potential risks or hazards. Moreover, it aims to develop strategies to foster business continuity. Although the entity is undergoing through the ‘event’.

On the other hand, risks are inevitable for everyone. However, an effective risk mitigation plan must help you deal with aftermaths.

Right Plan With The Right Priorities

An aspect of an effective risk mitigation plan is right prioritization. So to do this, the system must accept the amount of risk it can face. Thus, it shall help the team better deal with the situation.

Moreover, this involves proper risk evaluation. Because how you evaluate the risks impacts the whole process. It shall signal which risk comes first to respond to. So definite and appropriate responses will be taken.

5 Steps Of Developing A Risk Mitigation Plan

Risk Identification

The first part involves the identification of all possible risks. Moreover, before thinking outside the box. Take existing risks into account. Because you might overlook them.

Risk Assessment

‘Assess’ or weigh the impact of the identified risks. You should measure the effect of these risks on the processes or system. Or for the business, as a whole.

In addition, this step includes your assessment of the risk probability. This refers to the percentage of the risk occurring.

Prioritize Risks

Next, prioritizing follows the process. After evaluating your risks, you next need to prioritize them. This was slightly mentioned in the preceding part.

The purpose of this is to efficiently address risks. So you can do prioritizing. By putting first the risk with the lowest rate of risk acceptability.

Track Risk Progress

Do everything that is possible to keep track of the risks. Because risks can become more sophisticated in nature.

For example, a cyberattack today evolves in means and nature. Thus, keeping up to date shall help in keeping security high.

Moreover, if you are placed in the usual natural disaster-prone area. Always keep up with the updates and forecasts.

Monitor Continuously

Do not mistake risk mitigation as a one-time achievement. Because this is a process. So it continues on and on.

With your risk mitigation plan, ensure that the process is working according to plan. Also, as risk levels change. Thus, ensure that your processes reflect on changes too. You sure don’t want to lose by negligence.

Vendor Review- Tips And Techniques 2020

Vendor review is important in getting the most out of your vendor relationships.

Importance Of Vendors

In whatever field of business that you may be in, it does not matter. Vendors or third-party suppliers all play the significance of growth in your business. Because actually, you cannot run your business without them. So there is this what we call ‘dependency’ in between.

However, instead of viewing this relationship as mutually beneficial. Some businesses tend to see this as combative. It is sad but this is true. And as a result, this often brings the poor performance of services.

Moreover, always remember this formula. If you are going to bargain on pricing, you may save. But in reality, it may bargain the quality of their services or product brings. So be mindful of the quality. Rather than the quantity, it brings.

So what are the tips and techniques that can help you?

Set A Criteria Of Value

Setting these criteria should be done before any vendor partnership. However, it’s never yet too late to establish one.

Moreover, focus on the type of quality you think a good vendor is. Also, do the assessment on a regular basis. Consider the following suggestions:

  • Set a regular time (Monthly, Quarterly, Annually) in assessing your vendors
  • Consider the vendor’s business size. Also, the number of certifications, and the reviews they receive.
  • Also, take note if they are organized with their procedures. For instance, do they have proper documentation of your transactions?

Classify & Organize

This is especially helpful if you are connected with a huge number of suppliers or vendors. Also, imagine that you are to assess each one of them. That is a tedious, and complex task.

Thus, good classification in this regard is a great help. For example, classify them according to their criticality levels. Also, you can take into consideration the impact they bring. Like, ‘what effect do they bring into your business operations’?

Set A Standard Method Of Evaluation

Another organized way is setting your official method of vendor evaluation. Several techniques are available in rating them.

For instance:

  • System metrics
  • Software applications
  • Survey forms
  • Evaluation forms

Getting integrated with software applications is a fast and advanced way. For example, you can customize a program specifically designed for this.

Another option is to pass out survey forms to your employees. However, this may be tedious. But if you’re going to have this in a more advanced way. Like doing it online, it may be beneficial too.

Select Point Persons For Review

After gathering data of your vendor or supplier reviews. Now it’s time for assessment.

As mentioned earlier, it is highly suggested to classify vendors into levels. So, according to level, choose the assigned person to evaluate.

For instance, level 1 or most high-risk levels should be reviewed by the Chief Financial Officer. Or someone responsible with the best qualifications for reviewing. The same process goes with the other levels.

To Conclude

You may have more ways to optimize your vendor reviews. However, always aim for good relationships. This goes a long way in all aspects of life.
